After a week of near-perfect weather, the Fourth of July weekend turned out to be rather hot with Saturday's temperature at or near 90 degrees. No matter, the Atlanta Music Hall performers turned out a very cool performance, as always. Opening the show with the anthem of the swing era "In The Mood" set the stage for an energetic evening, with the band warming to the vocal encouragement of a lively audience. Several first-time visitors got a real taste of what Saturday nights are like at the Music Hall. Blondie (Hope) was at the piano so Jim was the sole vocalist and he provided an interesting variety of songs throughout the evening. His final number in the regular show was "Some Of These Days", complete with the can-can enhancement which always brings down the house.
Towards the end of the first set the band introduced a new number, the ballad "Maybe You'll Be There", sung by Frank Sinatra and Diana Krall among others. This was a song with special meaning for Mr. And Mrs. James Vrooman who were celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary. Light refreshments were served in honor of Malcolm (Barney) and Linda Barnes who were celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
The band opened the second set with a medley of three patriotic numbers, folllowed by "American Patrol". Jim then led the audience in singing "God Bless America".
Guest performer on the drums was John Schilk, doing a solid job of filling in for Jeff.
