12/3/2011 Yule Like This One

"Welcome, December!  We're not scared of you, Hah! we laugh at snow and ice.  Why we even played a song, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow.  So come on, we're ready for your chilly evenings, snowy nights illuminated by a brilliant full moon, and the developing sense of urgency but also a little excitement and joy that the Christmas season brings."

So spake the Band, albeit in unspoken words as they gamely carried on with their Saturday night performance.  There were a few empty seats, but still a few first-time visitors, too.  It seemed like things were headed in a nocturnal direction with a number of the selections being thusly themed -- I'll See You In My Dreams, Dream A Little Dream, Sleepy Time Down South, and others in the same vein.  An old number seldom played sounded pretty good to a discriminating audience, Every Street's A Boulevarde.

Tony Harris was on bass, filling in for Greg G.  Greg D graced the evening with a vocal number, and also told the story about those pesky snakes, always catching the interest of the crowd.

The Band was swinging away when all at once, there rose from the back such a racuous clatter, they nearly jumped up to see what was the matter.  Was it Santa?  Naw, just Steve and Janie, amusing the back rows with some hilarious comments.

Some very good cookies and brownies were served, for Hope's birthday, and though the guests serenaded loudly and with gusto, she still could not hear them (in Yorktown).

See you all next Saturday.  The Christmas songs are slowly creeping in, and the 17th will be the Christmas show.  No show on December 24!!
