Seasonal weather finally arrived in Central Indiana. Seasonal weather for January that is. Quite a bit brisker than the previous week's 50-degree sunbath. But not brisk enough to keep away a loyal crowd of fans, and a few first-time visitors to the Hall.
The Band opened with Sunny Side Of The Street, a perennial favorite, then a short time later went on a Slow Boat To China. And everyone rode along, wasn't that nice of them. A little bit later, the Band played Home Sweet Home. An on-going controversy questions whether or not the version the AMH Band plays is actually the correct song. Well, Widipedia says (and if it's on the internet, it has to be true) it is, or at least it's very close. This link will lead to the page with both the sheet music and a music file that will play the song for the viewer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home!_Sweet_Home! Not to be confused with Motley Crue's version of Home Sweet Home.....
Greg Duncan fired up the crowd with a hot version of 12th Street Rag. The intensity continued in the first half with a salsa-hot version of Tico-Tico and a rousing version of Jambalaya.
The second set opened with an allegretto performance of Everywhere You Go (there you are), followed by the smooth-as-silk Mercer and Mancini number The Days Of Wine And Roses.
Close to the end of the show, the Band tried out a new number, always wishing to challenge themselves. The new song was a jazz waltz entitled Emily, and went very well, incorporating Greg Gegogeine's bass solo verse into the performance.
For the first time in ages, no birthdays reported, and no cookies! Not only that but both cookie ladies were missing!
See you next week.
